Meter Maid

CHALLENGE  ACCOMPLISHMENT # 4

THE RESOLUTION: Random Kindnesses

It was a particularly busy day downtown and parking enforcement agents were out scouting for their next victim. I’m not sure what motivated me exactly, but the spirit of ThirteenSquared was shining bright that day. Perhaps being the end of the month and having recently done my ‘challenge completed’ updates (I noticed a clear bias towards certain resolutions and a sad neglect towards others) I was spurred into action. I turned off my usual route home and instead walked down one of the many streets lined with parking meters. I began looking at every meter I passed and casually dropped a quarter into those whose time had run out, hopefully buying the owners enough time to return to their vehicle before the ‘ticket man’ caught up to me. It was a simply kindness that will probably go unnoticed by anyone who did not receive a ticket today, but that is what altruism is supposed to be about.

Merriam-Webster defines Altruism as: Unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others.

One woman. One year. 33 down. 136 to go.
