I hereby proclaim the following 13 resolution lists to be my challengers for the year 2013:
1. Be a designated driver
a. Challenge must be completed successfully 13 times.
2. Try something new
a. Thirteen new things must be tried and documented (hopefully in a wonderful story).
3. Volunteer!
a. Challenge states that on 13 different occasions I will volunteer my time to any cause I choose for 1 hour.
4. Write a letter
a. Make that 13 letters! To those people I've so neglected from far and near, I have not forgotten you; it's time you know that.
5. Swim (I really wanted to do this 2012 and never did it. It was actually that simple contemplation that launched this entire project!)
a. Challenge is set at 13 occasions where swimming, as in doing laps or some kind of exercise takes place for a minimum of 20 mins. Sitting in a pool does NOT count :P
6. Cook/Bake something new... or at least try to :D
a. Thirteen totally new and hopefully eatable items will be produced and documented. (This will really be harder than it sounds.)
7. Read 13 books
a. Self-explanatory
8. Thirteen Random Acts of Kindness
9. Make 13 artsy projects
a. Another of those "Why don't I do that more often?" challenges with the added twist of having to show you all the finished product as part of my accountability.
10. Eat food from 13 different countries
a. After eating cockroaches in Laos and grasshoppers in Indonesia, not to mention dozens of meaty meals from unknown sources [:(] last year, this one should be a breeze.
11. Fix 13 things
a. I'm sure we could all easily produce 13 projects to complete from some box in the garage somewhere lazily labeled "Later...".
12. Have meaningful get togethers with friends old and new
a. Truthfully, I don't go out much and I hardly ever see my friends. Of course to be fair, I spent all of 6 weeks in my country in 2012 and was indeed, out the rest of the days. But this year I want to strengthen my friendships and diversify my fun so get ready friends for 13 outstanding get togethers. (And if you happen to be drinking, I may just have to drive you home so I can complete resolution 1 :P.)
13. Do 13 Challenges suggested by you!!!
a. Yes YOU! and you! Call it a little bit of a dare game. As long as you keep it reasonable, positive and legal I will complete 13 challenges selected by you. No better way to add some spice to your life :)
So here they are, the ThirteenSquared resolutions of the year 2013.
ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-NINE challenges to be blogged about through stories and pictures.
I will be very much looking forward to your support and encouragement. Don't forget to subscribe to http://thirteensquared13.blogspot.com.es to be kept up to date with all of my achievements.

Thirteen Squared?
Happy New Years 2013!
This is the time for resolution and new beginnings, yet for most of us all this turns out to be is empty promises and forgotten self-improvement messages. I'm no stranger to this. In fact, I can't remember having actually made and completed a single resolution in the past 5 years.
THIS is my attempt to change that. Although it started with a very simple one, based wholly on just wondering why I didn't do more of 'this' in 2012. You see, "more" is just to open. So I'm setting small, specifically numbered goals. Of course my hope is that by starting small I will create a bigger WANT in myself. A self inspired revolution by DOING!
But of course I have never been one to do anything small. So while I lay in bed unable to sleep my mind takes over with flurries of ideas each one bigger, funner and more inspiring than the one before. Until finally; ThirteenSquared became the challenge selected. The single greatest New Year's resolution for what is bound to be the greatest year to date: 2013.
So what is Thirteen Squared?
In its very basic essence: thirteen lists of 13 items each. The 13 titles represent the 13 resolutions. The 'squared' part is represented in one of 2 ways:
A. The simpler one. If resolution number is: "Be a designated driver", then according to the law of ThirteenSquared I will have to do this action 13 times in 2013 to complete my resolution.
B. Diversity wins. The resolution will go something like this: "Try something new". For resolution success ThirteenSquared demands that I log 13 new things I tried in 2013.
Finalizing ThirteenSquared:
Self-discipline has long been my mortal enemy. To which I offer its greatest foe: accountability. And in this process, you, yes you, can be greatest friend and support system because I am offering to you my accountability! This means that I will be documenting (and hopefully accompanying substantial evidence like pictures) every successful step toward achieving ThirteenSquared!
I hope to offer some great stories, interesting pictures and even a pinch of inspiration to anyone out there hoping to do more, to do better, for themselves and for others.
Look forward to your feedback and encouragement.
Your faithful ThirteenSquared challenger,
Karina
